Licensed both as an architect and landscape architect, Omar Faruque is well known for his teaching and research in the areas of graphic communication, design theory and cultural landscape. Other areas of his scholarly interest are typography, linguistics and three-dimensional modeling for creative design exploration.
He received his undergraduate and graduate education from Texas A&M University. His professional experience includes designing university campuses, office complexes, residential communities, and a new town. He has offered numerous design workshops at various universities and organizations including the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Landscape Architects. He taught at Texas A&M and Ball State Universities before joining Cal Poly. He has guided over two hundred fifth year and graduate theses in landscape architecture and architecture programs.
He has authored many scholarly articles and professional books including the design communication theory book, Graphic Communications as a Design Tool, which was translated into several languages. He writes novels, short stories, poems and songs. Since his childhood,, he has been interested in typography and has designed several roman and non-roman typefaces. He has received many professional and teaching awards.
