Duties:
This position reports directly to the Deputy Superintendent of the four east bay national parks, Eugene O'Neill NHS, John Muir NHS, Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial, and Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front NHP. The position provides expertise in park planning and related environmental compliance for the parks, with an emphasis on Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial and Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front NHP.
The incumbent performs a wide range of duties related to planning and may function as a project manager on a variety of projects. As a team member, the incumbent is involved in the preparation of a variety of planning projects and studies and related environmental documents. These duties require the incumbent to have (or acquire in a reasonable period of time) a full knowledge and understanding of National Park Service (NPS) planning and environmental compliance procedures, as well as an in-depth working knowledge of the NPS organization, policies, guidelines, and procedures. As necessary, the incumbent provides advice to project managers and planning team members on the planning process, problem solving, public involvement, and environmental compliance. The incumbent is fully proficient in his/her profession and works with little supervisory assistance.
Basic Requirements for Community Planner:
Possess a degree in community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in one of the above disciplines, or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the above disciplines of which at least 12 semester hours were in the planning process, and socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Applicants are responsible for providing documentation that the applicable educational provisions have been met. To qualify based on education you must submit a legible copy of transcripts or list of college courses with your name, school name, credit or semester hours, major(s), and a grade-point average or class ranking. Official transcripts are required upon selection if you qualified based on education.
Education must have been obtained from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
