The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) has announced its 2011-2012 scholarship program which, with its partners, will award a total of $35,500 in Leadership in Landscape Scholarships. The LAF, in its scholarship program, partners with sponsors and organizations seeking to improve the environment through student support. According to the LAF, the financial support resulting from these partnerships includes multiple scholarship categories rewarding superior student performance or assisting those with unmet financial need.

DBIA-WPR is requesting students to submit an application for the Design Build Institute of America's (DBIA) Western Pacific Region 2012 Scholarship program. To date, approximately 25% of applicants have received a scholarship.
DBIA Western Pacific Region has partnered with gkkworks to offer six (6) scholarships ($5,000 each) to qualified students pursuing a design or construction related degree in the western U.S. Eligible students are invited to download the application and submit by April 13, 2012. The Selection Committee will award scholarships to the most qualified students. Winners will be recognized at DBIA's Western Pacific Annual Awards Banquet on May 24th.
The scholarships are designed to recognize and encourage excellence in the Design-Build approach to Design and Construction. The scholarship is awarded based on merit/academic achievement, demonstrated interest in and understanding of the Design-Build methodology, leadership skills, and financial need.
Required application documentation:
- Application form.
- Written endorsement from Professor, Industry Professional, or DBIA member.
- Written essay (3-pages maximum, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman). Topic: As stated on the DBIA web site, "The Design-Build Institute of America is the only organization that defines, teaches, and promotes best practices in Design-Build. Design-build is an integrated approach that delivers design and construction services under one contract with a single point of responsibility. Owners select design-build to achieve best value while meeting schedule, cost and quality goals." Why do you believe that design-build achieves best value for Owners? Essay should show demonstrated interest in and understanding of the Design Build methodology and leadership skills.
- Resume and transcripts.
- Short Autobiography (500 words maximum) including how you plan to use your DB education in your future endeavors.
- Proof of tuition.
Academic Requirements:
- Student in good standing making reasonable progress towards a degree in Design and/or Construction.
- 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA (through latest grading period).
- CM, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or other major pertinent to Design and Construction.
- Demonstrated interest in Design-Build through internship, project work, or participation in DBIA Student Chapter.
It is preferred that applicants be a student member of DBIA.
Financial need will be a criterion considered. Provide proof of tuition, plus disclosure of other scholarships and grants.

The National Garden Clubs (NGC) offers approximately 35 college scholarships annually, each in the amount of $3,500. One-year scholarships are available to juniors, seniors, and graduate students pursuing a Master's Degree. Sophomores may make application for their junior year.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Selection Criteria: All applications received by a State Garden Club Chairman will be judged by that Chairman and committee in order to choose one winning application. After judging has been completed at the state level, the NGC Scholarship Chairman will receive the applications by April 1 for judging. The NGC Scholarship Committee will consider only one application per state (although any state garden club with a membership of over 10,000 may submit two applications). The following scale of points will be used for the evaluation of each application:
Applications are evaluated and winners chosen by the NGC Scholarship Committee, which consists of the NGS Scholarship Chairman and the eight regional directors of NGC. Final judging takes place just prior to the annual NGC Convention. Winners are announced during the NGC Convention. The NGC Scholarship Chairman will notify all applicants in writing of the committee's decisions immediately following the judging.

The Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects has announced the availability of the 2012 Karen Ann Shopis-Fox Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is funded in part with proceeds from the Chapter's annual golf outing, and is awarded to encourage awareness and education in the field of landscape architecture.
Scholarship applicants must be legal residents of the State of Connecticut and enrolled in an accredited landscape architecture or environmental education program at the college or university level. Application forms for the Scholarship needed to be postmarked between January 1 and March 15, 2012.

The Association for Women in Architecture (AWA) Foundation has announced its Annual Scholarship Awards. AWA offers cash awards to women students who have completed by April 16, 2012 at least 18 units in their major in a program granting a degree or certificate in one of the following majors: Architecture; Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering as related to Environmental Design; Landscape Architecture; Urban and Land Planning; Interior Design; Environmental Design.
Applicants must be California residents or attending an accredited school in California and must be enrolled in one of the majors listed above for the 2011-2012 school year. The AWAF Scholarship Committee will review all applications for completeness first and then for quality of work. Incomplete applications cannot be considered and will be discarded.
Five (5) awards of $1,000 each will be given. Winners will be selected and invited to bring examples of their work to be exhibited at an awards reception in May 2012 in the greater Los Angeles are where they will receive their award checks.
Selections will be based on merit as evidenced by grades, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and quality of student work.

The Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation Education Committee has announced that up to three student scholarships are available to attend and to present research at the 2012 Annual Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, April 2012.
One student will be selected to present his/her studies in historic landscape preservation as part of the conference professional program, in a 15-minute Power Point presentation. Two students will be selected to present their studies as posters during the poster sessions of the conference program.
The total value of the scholarships includes a waiver of the conference registration fee and an award of $300 to offset travel expenses. Upper level undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines related to cultural landscape preservation may apply for a scholarship.

- A letter addressed to the Education Committee clearly stating your interest in attending the 2012 Annual Conference in Victoria;

The California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) District 6 (which includes Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey Counties) has two $1,250 scholarships available annually for graduate and undergraduate college students pursuing a degree related to Parks and Recreation (such as Landscape Architecture, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Environmental Studies, Horticulture, Land Management, Hospitality, Leisure Management Studies, Tourism, etc.).
Applicants must be students in good standing and maintain permanent residency or live within the geographical boundaries of District 6 (Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties) or be employed by an agency within District 6 that provides recreation and/or park-related services. Evidence of leadership ability, professional attitude, good standing in academic coursework and initiative will be taken into consideration.

The Landscape Architecture department is able to select one applicant to be considered for a 2010 Sigma Lambda Alpha (SLA) National Scholarship. The recipient must be outstanding in scholarship and leadership achievement. Nominees must be: 1) a member of Sigma Lambda Alpha, and 2) returning to school in a formal degree program for a full academic year.
The deadline was April 30, 2010 for electronic applications (PDF's received by April 30th) and hard copies (postmarked by April 30th). One copy of each entire application package was to be sent Hard Copy by surface mail and one entire application (excluding graphic examples) electronically by the April 30th deadline.

The Sigma Lambda Alpha (SLA) Honor Society in Landscape Architecture recognizes and encourages scholarship in all aspects of education. SLA has created a travel grant program to support and enhance students' education. The purpose of the grant is to supplement the student's ability to travel to professional or educational meetings, travel to natural and built environments for independent research, or to offset the costs of field trips where there is a proven research benefit demonstrated.
Amount: Up to six (6) grants of $500.
Eligibility: Candidate (grantee) must be a student member of a recognized chapter of Sigma Lambda Alpha. The student must use the grant for travel within one year of its approval. The grant may be used for either domestic or international travel.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education is seeking applicants for the 2012 Student Sustainability Leadership Award. The award includes a $750 prize and a complimentary conference pass to AASHE 2012. The winner will be featured in AASHE's publication, "Sustainability: The Journal of Record," and will be presented with the award at AASHE 2012 (October 14-17, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA).
Any undergraduate student who has played a leadership role in implementing campus sustainability is eligible for this award. Students graduating in Spring 2012 are also eligible.

Each year, the Asian American Architects and Engineers Foundation (AAa/e) offers scholarships to students pursuing careers in architecture (including landscape architecture), engineering, or construction. The Foundation is a branch of the Asian American Architects/Engineers Association of Southern California. The purpose of the scholarships is to provide encouragement and financial incentive for the students to excel in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and construction.

The Garden Club of America provides scholarships and fellowships for the study of landscape architecture, horticulture, ecological restoration, coastal wetlands, garden history and design, environmental science, urban forestry, desert studies and more.
Scholarships include:
The Clara Carter Higgins Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship and the GCA Awards for Summer Environmental Studies which annually funds one Clara Carter Higgins scholar and one or more GCA Summer Environmental Studies scholars for summer coursework in environmental studies. The scholarships are open to college students following their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. These awards offer students who have demonstrated a keen interest in the betterment of the environment an opportunity for further study at a site chosen by the student. The application deadline is February 10.
The GCA Fellowship in Ecological Restoration provides an annual grant for study and research at a leading accredited university in the United States. The fellowship is open to graduate students. The application deadline is December 31.
The Douglas Dockery Thomas Fellowship in Garden History and Design funds one graduate student annually at $4,000 for study and research in the history and design of the American garden. The application deadline is February 1.
The GCA Internship in Garden Design and History provides funds to undergraduate and graduate students for study of garden history and design and, if possible, aid in the cataloguing of the GCA slides in the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution. The application deadline is February 15.
The Elizabeth Gardner Norweb Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship provides financial assistance of $2,000 to one student annually for field work, research, or classroom work in the environmental field. Open to college undergraduates for summer study following the freshman, sophomore, or junior year. The application deadline is February 10.
The Mary T. Carothers Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship provides financial assistance of $2,000 to one student annually for summer environmental studies doing field work, research, or classroom work. Open to college undergraduates for summer study following the freshmen, sophomore, or junior year. The application deadline is February 10.
The GCA Award in Desert Studies funds more or more scholars annually at $4,000. Provides an award with wide scope for the study of horticulture, conservation, botany, environmental science and landscape design relating to the arid landscape. Open to graduate or advanced undergraduate students studying in an accredited U.S. university. The application deadline is January 15.
The GCA Zone VI Fellowship in Urban Forestry funds one or more students annually at $4000 for study and research that will advance the knowledge of urban forestry and increase the number of scientists in the field. Open to graduate or advanced undergraduate students in environmental studies, horticulture, forestry, and related courses of study with a special interest in the urban forest. The application deadline is January 31.
The Sally Brown GCA National Parks Conservation Scholarship annually provides training, transportation, and a $1,170 stipend for each of two students as Student Conservation Association (SCA) apprentice crew leaders working directly under two experienced leaders on a three-week, summer trail crew in one of America's storied national parks. Open to college undergraduates, with preference given to those with prior SCA experience. The application deadline is February 1.

The JSR Foundation is the charitable arm of the ASLA Colorado Chapter. The Foundation supports sustainability and stewardship of the natural and designed landscapes in the Rocky Mountain Region through educational endeavors and public awareness.
The Foundation awards scholarships to students who demonstrate a passion for preserving, improving and enhancing public spaces through responsible and innovative land use and design. Students are required to submit a design brief for review by the JSR board.
Student award applications for the 2011-2012 school year were due April 21, 2011.
