Pilot "Professional Shadow" Program

The Landscape Architecture Department, in conjunction with the Landscape Architecture Department Advisory Council (LADAC) and participating professional partners, has launched a pilot "professional shadow" program for LA majors. The program offers students an opportunity to gain exposure to professional offices and develop contacts within the profession. The program is available to all students who have completed second-year design studio.

The program objective is for students to gain exposure to the professional careers and work environments of landscape architects. The program does not fulfill the LA 371 internship requirements.

Program duration would typically be one work week, during which students would "shadow" senior professionals. No fee would be charged by the participating offices, nor would any payment be made to participating students. Students may be invited to go to presentations, client meetings, staff meetings, learn about how the office is structured, who the clients are, how projects are structured, etc.

Students would be responsible for providing their own housing.

Offices may or may not provide direct work experience to the students. Students will become familiar with typical and valuable office tasks that they can volunteer to do when there is time in the day, such as product library updates, image searches, project photography, or design or production tasks.

Students may participate in this program at any time they can schedule it with a participating office, including winter break, spring break, summer, or whenever you can make it work.

Interested students should apply through the Landscape Architecture office. The department will inform students about participating offices and opportunities. Students should not contact participating offices with requests prior to coordinating with the Landscape Architecture office.
